Happy Mother's Day

Unfortunately at 8 months along, this gift is an impossibility. Wishing our own moms and all of our I Guess I'm Due mamas out there a fabulous day! Have a good one ladies!

Registry Overload

As I approached the halfway point in my pregnancy, I started work on the daunting task of the baby registry. I basically surveyed all of my mom friends and bugged them until they just told me exactly what to register for. I had been doing everything online, until one night when I decided to drag Kyle to Buy Buy Baby.

For those of you who have never been, it's Bed Bath & Beyond's baby store, so the same floor to ceiling crap everywhere effect. My minimalist self should have known better...

The workers must have known by the look on my face that I was completely overwhelmed. Their greetings seemed more like ones of concern, "Uh, is everything okay? Need help?" Yes! I am stuck an episode of baby hoarders and I need to get out!

Just like weddings, this was really my first experience with the baby industry. Yes it is a complete industry and you have to sift through all of the random gadgets to figure out what really is a necessary.

But don't worry, as we checked out, Kyle bought me a bag of Flipz. (Those white chocolate pretzels I haven't had since like fourth grade.) And just a like a little kid, it made the entire trip worth it...

Mother Knows Best

She has a way with words this one. I only had to wear a full leg cast from birth until 3 years old and then had to walk with shoes with a bar between them, but I think I turned out just fine! Although, I guess the verdict is still out on that one...

Finding Out

After being in a state of shock with no sounds uttered and our jaws dropped for at least a couple minutes, here were our first words uttered after seeing the test.

After receiving this great news, most normal people would have visions of someday holding their precious future baby in their arms. Me, on the other hand, this had now become my only mental image:

What can I say? Welcome to my version of motherhood y'all.

the eye doctor

Well, we didn't exactly leave with a solution to our sleep problems. Instead, we left with a shiny new pair of glasses for my little fashionista!

The Boring Blues

As I looked in the mirror this morning I started asking myself {again} why I couldn’t look more like “Timmy’s” mom. Her hair was always styled just right, her skin always glowing, and her body perfectly sculpted. Why couldn’t I just look like her?!

Then, on the way home from school drop off, it took a conversation between my two toddlers to shake me out of my boring blues...

Well, leave it to a five year old to remind you that your face is breaking out like a teenager! Looks like we'll have to start reading books in the dark now..

Just Jelly

Trying to please everyone’s appetite in my house can be a challenge. But some days, it’s as simple as making peanut butter and jelly sandwich with just the jelly.

baby fat

I love fat babies. Not just the ones with big cheeks, but the whole enchilada. That’s right, pudgy legs, rolls on the arms, a squishy belly, I love it all! After two chunkers of my own and then a chubby nephew, I've come to accept that rollie pollie babies are just in my genes. However, that wasn't always the case. You see, for almost two years I was in complete denial that my son, Jakson was ever a chunky baby...

I remember taking Jakson for a walk in the stroller when he was about 1 month old. On my way out, I decided to stop by the leasing office to visit a lady that worked there to show off my cute baby. When the woman took her first look at my baby she blurted, “Girl, you’ve got a fat baby!” Wait, did she say fat?! I remember leaving there and thinking that she obviously had no idea what a fat baby looked like. My baby was NOT fat!

People would tell me here and there how cute his rolls were and asked how on earth I could hold him because he looked so heavy. Was that suppose to be a compliment?! My mother in law would always tell me, “I can't believe how chunky he is. It must be his mommy’s super milk!” I just didn’t see it. Months, actually I think it was more like 2 years later, I was looking through one of Jakson's baby books and it hit me...my son was a fat baby! Why didn’t I see it before?!
This whole time he was a chubster, but I saw him as my cute, squishy, cuddly, baby boy. I should have seen it though, at four weeks he weighed a whopping 11 pounds, 16 weeks he came in at 17.9 pounds, and by the time he was 6 months he was already 21 pounds! But, as a mom I chose to see my baby in a different light then the world around, I call it my “mommy goggles”.

Whether our babies have crazy hair (because my two girls did) long lanky legs, monkey toes, or big ears, they’re absolutely perfect, baby fat and all!

And, don’t worry, if you have a chunky baby, I found that at about year three they begin to slim down.
